Managing Products

Learn how to add products and competitor URLs to monitor

Adding Products

Create a New Product

Products represent the items you want to monitor. Each product can have multiple competitor URLs.

  1. Navigate to the Products page in your dashboard
  2. Click the "Add Product" button (or press N)
  3. Enter a descriptive product name (e.g., "iPhone 15 Pro 256GB")
  4. Optionally add your SKU or product identifier
  5. Optionally set your current selling price for comparison
  6. Click "Create Product"
Tip: Use clear, descriptive product names. This helps you quickly identify products when viewing price alerts and history.

Adding Competitor URLs

Add Competitor URLs

Once you've created a product, add competitor URLs where the same product is sold. RivalPrice will automatically extract and monitor prices from these pages.

  1. Open the product you want to add competitors for
  2. Click "Add Competitor URL"
  3. Paste the full URL of the competitor's product page
  4. RivalPrice will automatically detect the competitor name from the domain
  5. Click "Add" to save the URL
  6. Repeat for additional competitors

Best Practices for URLs:

  • Use the exact product page URL (not category or search pages)
  • Make sure the page displays the product price when you visit it
  • Popular sites like Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Newegg work great
  • Test the URL first to ensure the price is visible
  • Avoid URLs with session IDs or temporary parameters

Editing Products

Update Product Information

You can update product details at any time:

  • Click on a product to open its details page
  • Click the "Edit" button
  • Update the product name, SKU, or your selling price
  • Save your changes

Note: Editing a product doesn't affect price history. All historical data is preserved.

Managing Competitor URLs

Removing Competitor URLs

If a competitor URL is no longer valid or you want to stop monitoring it:

  1. Open the product details page
  2. Find the competitor URL in the list
  3. Click the delete/trash icon
  4. Confirm the deletion

Note: Deleting a competitor URL removes it from future monitoring but preserves historical price data.

Testing URLs

Before adding a competitor URL, you can test it to verify price extraction works:

  1. Use the "Test URL" feature in the product page
  2. Paste the URL you want to test
  3. RivalPrice will attempt to extract the price
  4. If successful, you'll see the extracted price and can add it
  5. If it fails, try a different URL or check if the page structure has changed

Product Limits

Understanding Your Plan Limits

Each plan has a maximum number of products you can monitor:

  • Free Plan: Limited products for testing
  • Standard Plan: More products for growing businesses
  • Premium Plan: Unlimited products for large operations

You can view your current usage and limits in your account settings. If you reach your limit, you'll need to upgrade your plan or remove unused products.

Best Practices

Organize Your Products

Use clear, consistent naming conventions. Include key details like model numbers or sizes in product names to make them easy to identify.

Monitor Multiple Competitors

Add 3-5 competitor URLs per product for better market insights. This gives you a more complete picture of pricing trends.

Keep URLs Updated

If a competitor URL stops working (404 error, page changed), remove it and add the new URL. RivalPrice will notify you if a URL fails to scrape.
